Dueteronomy 7:7-9 The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: (8) But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. (9) Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations:
Faithful————1) strict or thorough in the performance of duty 2) true to one’s word, promises, vows, etc. 3) steady in allegiance or affection; loyal; constant 4) reliable, trusted, or believed 5) adhering or true to a fact, a standard, or an original
I wasn’t totally settled on what to write until I got all the way to looking up the definition of “faithful”. When I began to read all of them, I felt business pick up in my soul. The word “faithful” occurs 82 times in the bible and faithfulness 19 times. Don’t get me wrong, I love the scripture I wrote above but sometimes the meaning gets lost in familiarity. Let’s just slow down tonight and look at these. Sometimes it just does you good to review and let God remind you of what you already know for certain. Number 1–strict or thorough in the performance of duty. Phillipians 4:19 But my God, not just any God but my God shall, not maybe but shall without a doubt, supply all, not a few or some but all, your need, not just everyone else’s but mine, according to his riches, based on what he has not what I think I need, in glory by Christ Jesus, bought and paid for by him. That’s what I call thorough in his performance of duty. Number two, true to his word, promises vows, etc… Name one time, just once, he has ever lied to you or failed to deliver on a promise. Hebrews 6:18 says it is “impossible for God to lie”. That means not even a “sliver” of a chance it is going to happen. Dueteronomy 31: 6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Hey, it ain’t just anybody with you it’s him! Him that created the heavens and the earth with just his word and made you out of useless dust, it’s him that’s with you! With somebody that can do all that, what in the world are you worried about? Number three, steady in allegiance or affection. Loyal or constant. Proverbs 18: 24 ….there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. I am glad that he is steady. His faithfulness don’t depend on mine. I may waiver but he is always steady. Psalms 27:10 When my mother and father forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. It doesn’t say if parent’s forsake us it says when. If at no other time, parents will forsake us in death either by leaving us or us leaving them. God won’t never leave you. Number four, reliable trusted, believed. Because he is reliable and has always come through we are persuaded to trust and believe him. Being reliable means you can count on it longterm. Number five, adhering or true to a fact, a standard, or original. He has definitely surpassed the standard and that is a fact. And without a doubt, he is original. What’s the old saying, often immitated but never duplicated. That is original. He sets the stardard and no one else can even come close.
Well, I hope you have enjoyed this basic thought about how faithful he is. Like I said in the beginning, a lot of us know this for certain but there may be some reading that have never accepted Christ as your Savior. You can experience this peace firsthand if you repent of your sins. They may not be as black as some but they are still seperating you from God’s love. Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
