NOT JUST ANOTHER NUMBER

NOT JUST ANOTHER NUMBER                                                                                                   Andy Hollifield 7-6-17
Deuteronomy 32:10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
Genesis 2:7″ And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
Where did God find you when he saved you? A lot of folks could tell stories that would amaze others at how deep in sin they were. Truth be known; we were all just as lost as the next one. As far as God is concerned, we were all in a desert land and a wilderness. He led us out of that wilderness and instructed us and keeps us as the “pupil” of his eye. We are the center of his focus. Everything he does, he does for us. One meaning of the “apple of my eye” means the pupil but another meaning means cherished. It is an established fact that we are cherished by the Lord.
“Cherish” is an interesting word that doesn’t just mean to hold or treat as dear or feel love for. It also means to care for tenderly and to nurture. God doesn’t just hold us as dear but he tenderly nurtures and cares for us. The words “cherish” and “cherished” are only used 1 time each in the bible. The evidence however, that we are cherished by the Lord, is found on practically every page of scripture. Creation itself is a testimony of the Lord as to how much he does cherish us. He wasn’t that impressed with creation other than to say that it was good. But why did he create to begin with? It is pretty obvious since he gave man dominion over the earth in Genesis 1, that he thought more of man than he did of creation and he made it just for us. I have mentioned this before in my writing, but have you realized that man was the only creature that God made in his image and likeness? Genesis 1 pretty much shoots down the whole “evolving” argument doesn’t it? It plainly says that man and woman were “created”. We were made to look like him. Not another creature was ever made to look like God. Just the human race. God never breathed the breath of life into a monkey either! The only thing that he ever created that he breathed into is man. He spoke everything else into existence. As a matter of fact, the only thing in all of creation that God ever even touched is man when he “formed” him out of the dust of the ground. To form something, you have to handle it. God didn’t speak man into existence but he made him and “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul.” You can find different places throughout the bible where God breathed “on” someone or something but only in the garden of Eden did he breathe “into” anyone. That in itself ought to make you know that to God, you are more than a number. You are not just another person that God saved but you are special if for no other reason because he formed you. Not only that, but after he formed you he breathed into you. I am not trying to be repetitive but I want you to see just how special you are to God. There is nothing else that he breathed into, formed with his hands, much less made in his image.
That all sounds really good but if you are still not convinced, you need to read Revelation chapter 5. It is the story of the largest, most critical , manhunt in the history of the world and beyond. It says that a strong angel proclaimed a search through heaven and on the earth and under the earth. Even after an exhaustive search, still no one was found worthy to take the book out of the Lord’s hand. But then in Revelation 5:5 John said he was weeping because the search had yielded no one that was found worthy to take the seven-sealed book from the Lord. In verse 4 there was no hope for mankind but in verse 5 hope is renewed because Jesus Christ had prevailed. It goes on to say that not only was he worthy to take the book but also to break the seals thereof. Do you know why God did that search? He did it to find a sacrifice that was perfect and could make possible, redemption by the blood of Jesus. In all honesty, God knew there would be no other sacrifice worthy. I believe he did the search just to show us that there is no other way. No one else, except Jesus and his blood. Now with all of that evidence, do you really think that God would allow you to be destroyed? Do you really think you are just another person that accepted God? No, No, No! God has too much invested in you not to take care of you. He can’t afford to let you go because then his purpose wouldn’t be accomplished the way he wants it to be.
I hope this somehow encourages you. Just to know that God went through all of that trouble just to preserve you. You may be just another number to the world, but like the song says, “I’m the one that the shepherd left the flock for.” That’s you! You are the one that God orchestrated all of these events in order to save your soul. If you are born again and Christ is your Savior, you ought to feel like more than just another number. You are still, “the apple of his eye.” Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
