ALREADY PREPARED                                                                                                                   Andy Hollifield 10-29-18

Jonah 1:17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. (KJV)

This man no more chance of survival than if he had of been on the Titanic. To think that he could flee from the presence of God by getting on a ship going the opposite direction was ludicrous. That was almost as bad as anyone thinking there was such a thing as an unsinkable ship. If it floats, it can be sunk. Just like the Titanic, this ship was about to go down. The storm was so severe that these rugged, experienced, sailors were out of their minds with fear and calling on their gods to be saved from the storm. The thoughts of throwing a man overboard to his death in a raging sea didn’t seem like a good plan. But, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Jonah may not have known it but that event in his life was a blessing, or maybe I should say a lesson, in disguise. Even though he was trying to run from God, had the Lord not have prepared that fish, then Jonah would have most certainly drowned. He later said he spent three days and nights in what he called “the belly of hell”. God blessed Jonah by sending a fish that was big enough to swallow him to that precise spot at that exact time to swallow him thus rescuing him from drowning. It is a good thing that God had prepared that fish.

Deliverance may not always come how we expect but God has already prepared a solution for our problem. Troubles may seem like they will swallow us up and bring us to our demise. They may however be the catalyst to our greatest triumphs. After all, Jonah preached only one sermon and an entire city turned to God. Jonah was arguably the greatest evangelist of all time. Never before or since has a whole city repented.  Jonah never knew it, but even those sailors repented.  What can God accomplish in other people’s lives by the trouble we may endure? We may be making a life-changing difference that we may never know about. Trust God. He has a solution to our problems and it is already prepared.
