HEAVEN’S GETTING CLOSER ALL THE TIME                                                                      Andy Hollifield 11-12-18

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Redeem—-to obtain the release or restoration of, as from captivity, by paying a ransom. To deliver from sin and its consequences by means of a sacrifice offered for the sinner.

Begin to come to pass. We have arrived at that point in history. You can look at Luke 21 and 2 Timothy 3 and even Luke 17 where it says “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man”. Even Matthew 24 says, “So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors”. I would encourage you to read all of these scriptures for yourself.

We read these scriptures more now probably than ever but we read them from the viewpoint of how bad things have gotten. I believe that Jesus as well as the other writers wanted us to be on the lookout for all these things to happen. I don’t believe though, that he wants us to fall victim to the notion of “Woe is me”. I believe these things were written for a warning so we could be sure to be ready.

If you look at Luke 21:28, I believe that Jesus wanted it to be a time of celebration. Not celebrating because of how bad things had gotten but because those events and attitudes will serve as a reminder that we as God’s children, born again by his grace, are fixing to head for home. Jesus told his followers just prior to his ascension, as he went away he would so come in like manner. He ascended up into the clouds as he left. Four times in Matthew and Mark the bible says that he is “Coming in the clouds”. Twice it says, “With power and great glory”.

Jesus went on to tell them when they started to see these things beginning to come to pass. He said at that point for them to “look up”. He also told them to lift up their heads. Think about what that is saying. Psalms 3:3 says, “But thou, O lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head”. Psalms 43:5 asks, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God”. If he is “The lifter up of my head” and “The health of my countenance”, why shouldn’t we get excited when we see these things starting to happen? He has released us from the bondage of sin and its penalties. He has also gone to prepare a place for us. He definitely paid the ransom for us with his own life and blood. In Matthew 26:28 he said prior to the Lord’s Supper, “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins”. I heard one person say that he was no longer looking but he has started listening. Walls of Jasper, a street of gold, a crystal river, twelve foundations of precious jewels, and even though their beauty is unsurpassed, it won’t mean a thing to us. The fact that we will be in the physical presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as being in the presence of God the Father upon his throne, will be what makes it heaven for us. We will be once again reunited with family and friends that went before us as well as Old Testament saints that we have long admired. Revelation 21:4 says, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away”. Probably the best part there will be no more of will be NO MORE DEVIL! Once we cross over whether by the rapture or by the grave, we will not have to worry about the badgering of Satan ever again. Roll that one around in your mind a minute. Be sure to watch the six o’clock news for as long as you can stand it today. When you have had all you can take, just remember that those things that we find to be such a burden to our hearts and minds; all of those will be left behind. Just look up and lift up your head for your redemption draweth nigh. Like I said to start with: Heaven’s getting closer all the time. Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
