CAN YOU BELIEVE IT (2) Andy Hollifield 12-23-18
Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
These were the words of Jesus to a distraught father prior to Jesus commanding the deaf and dumb spirit to come out of his son. The words of the father in a tearful response were, “Lord I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Can you believe it? When you look at your life and see what God has done for you; Can you believe it? I remember one occasion in my life where God used a lady in my church to record a song on the radio and call to play it for me. The song was “There’s A Miracle In The Making For You Today.” I don’t really know of anything that was wrong at the time but business picked up in my soul after that song. Prior to that, God used a 12 year-old boy to bring a cocky 18-year-old down off of his high horse at Baptist Hospital. He also used an ultrasound tech telling me my test results, to get my attention.
God used a pig pen in Luke 15 to turn the heart of a wayward son and get him to return to his father. We all know about the five loaves and two fish that he used in Luke 9 to feed 5000 men besides women and children. There is also the time in Matthew 17 when Jesus used a fish to provide for his and Peter’s taxes. Not every fish has a piece of money in its mouth but that one did. Can you believe that God used a manger to bring his Son into the world. He even used the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost to make Mary become pregnant with Jesus without ever having been with a man (Luke 1:35). Can you believe that the Lord used the lowest of occupations to make Christ birth announcement. He sent angels to shepherds to tell them about the birth. The shepherds were in effect the first preachers . God even used a star to mark the place of Jesus birth into the world. Jesus used a widow in Luke 21 to teach his disciples about giving. He also used a sinner woman with a bad reputation and a box of ointment to teach his disciples and Simon the Pharisee about love and forgiveness as well as hospitality in Luke 7. In Mark 6 Jesus used a severe storm to teach his disciples about faith. In John 9 he used clay made from spit to recover the sight of a blind man. Once in Mark 7, he even put his fingers in the ears of a deaf man with a speech problem, spit and touched his tongue, and he heard and spoke plainly. He also sent an angel into a prison to cause Peter’s chains to fall off and escort him to freedom from between soldiers chained to him in Acts 5. In Acts 16 God used an earthquake to open prison doors and get the entire family of a Philippian jailer to repent and believe on Jesus. He even used Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at a well and telling her all her sin to get many in the city to believe on God in John 4.
It still amazes me that God had made an ass talk in Numbers 22 and teach his prophet about obedience after the animal had seen God’s angel and saved the prophets life three times. That story has always enthused me for some reason. God also used a cloud the size of a mans to produce enough black clouds to darken the shy and produce a flood. He also let Elijah and Elisha use a mantle to part waters and make a dry path where they had been. He used the fingers of a man’s hand to write on a wall his judgement upon King Belshazzar for drinking out of the cups of the temple at Jerusalem that had been stolen when the city was captured. If that wasn’t bad enough, he was drinking toasts to false gods. God even used the sun shining upon water and giving a red appearance to deceive the Moabites and bring victory in battle to the Israelites. He even used a sound in the top of Mulberry trees to signal David when to take his army into battle.
There are so many stories of how Jesus healed people and all the miracles that he done in so many different ways. Just when people thought they had seen it all, Jesus did something else to meet someone’s need and amaze all that heard of it. He may not have used earthquakes or the sun shining on water or a talking donkey to meet your need but can you believe how he did it? Those hopeless times in impossible situations and all at once the Lord fixed it. You don’t know how or why but he just fixed it. When we get down to where the rubber meets the road, if we can believe Jesus, he can fix whatever needs fixing in our lives. He may not do it in the way we expect but he can do it. Can you believe it? Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
