STAND THEREFORE

STAND THEREFORE                                                                                                                      Andy Hollifield 12-23-16

Having done all, to stand. Stand therefore! Just a partial quote from Ephesians 6:13-14. Beginning in Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, my brethren be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; The scripture continues on and details the armor and the one interesting fact about that armor is that there is no protection for the back. I believe that is because God doesn’t expect us to be running away from the fight.

On Wednesday, to their credit, our state legislature failed to repeal the HB2 bathroom bill which at the very least serves as protection for our wives and children and preserves what little decency we have left as members of the human race. I don’t want a woman in the restroom with me or a man in the restroom with my wife, period. Politics aside, we as private citizens and as Christians have our own battle to fight. It may seem trivial to some but then again, termites don’t destroy a house all at once, they do it one tiny bite at a time. We shouldn’t be giving up even the tiny bites. I am referring to Christmas. That’s right, it is Christmas. The day that we celebrate the birth of Christ. Not Mohammed, Buddha, the Pope, or anyone else but the birth of Christ. I don’t mean to offend anyone but I am tired of being offended. Why should I be expected to conceal my beliefs by saying “Happy Holidays” because someone might be offended? If you don’t believe like I do, that’s ok. You have that right. You can wish me a “merry” whatever you like and I won’t be bothered by it. We live in America and we all have the freedom to believe or not believe whatever we want to. We all, without question, will stand before a holy God one day and will give account for ourselves. I have a lot of friends whose opinions differ from mine but we are still friends. I believe this; I believe we all have the right to be offended. There is no law that says you are not allowed to offend me and vice versa. I am offended by the sale of Xmas trees and gifts etc… If it bothers me bad enough, I can go to stores where they sale Christmas items. I accept the fact that I have no right to require them to operate their business in accordance to my beliefs. My problem really is not with folks that don’t believe like I do, but with the ones that do. Shame on you if you celebrate Christmas privately and publicly refuse to call it that. I have had telemarketers, doctor’s offices, and such call me on the phone and wish me “happy holidays” before we got off of the phone. I returned their greeting with “merry Christmas to you too”. I refuse to be politically correct on some things. I am sorry if the fact that Christ was born and died for your sins and mine offends you. I want everyone to know which camp I am in. I AM a born-again child of God! By no means am I perfect but I have been forgiven of all my sins. That is why I celebrate Christmas. God gave me that gift of forgiveness when he gave his Son and his Son gave his life. I WILL NOT be ashamed to name his name now or at any other time of the year. Little bites. I won’t give up the little bites. It amazes me how many people will deny God or tip toe around any belief in him but will gladly take the days off of work with pay to celebrate Christ’s birth. If you really don’t believe in him, don’t be hypocritical about it. Go ahead and work on the 25th and think of all the money you will save by not buying gifts. If you really are offended by the things of God, you will have no trouble not celebrating them. An old preacher once put it like this; “Be what you is where you is cause if you try to be what you aint, it will mess up what you is”. I want to try to be a Christian wherever I am. I want to demonstrate in my life, the love of God. Termites never get enough. They just continue to take little bites until the source is destroyed.

All of that being said, I want you to know that if you see me somewhere or talk to me, you can expect me to wish you a “Merry Christmas”. He is “the reason for the season”. I don’t mean to be on a rant, but I just get tired of the world mentioned in Ephesians 6:12 trying to secularize the birth of my Savior and expecting me to go along with it so no one will be offended. I hope this will encourage you all to think about what you say and be sure to wish others a “merry Christmas”. Also, conduct yourselves in a manner that will demonstrate the love of God. Don’t let anyone force you to take Christ out of Christmas. Having done all to stand; Stand therefore. Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
