WHAT NOW?

WHAT NOW?                                                                                                                               Andy Hollifield 1-1-17

If you listen real, close you can probably hear a really big, collective, sigh of relief. Something about the page turning on the calendar seems to bring that comfort to us, at least until the next circumstance in our life gets us all bent out of shape, and then it starts all over. Then we will be back to normal, just living life one day at a time just like we have in the past year. So really, what is the big deal? God is still on the throne just like he was yesterday. Any bills that were due yesterday in 2016 are now one day late. Any plans you had for December, now instead of having to rush to get them done you can relax, you have got twelve months to get them done now. So why is turning the page such a big deal to us? We all do it. We get ourselves all worked up over nothing. It is really just another 24 hour span of time. One digit in the year and one month on the calendar is really all that changed. Life still continues on as we knew it yesterday.

Back to a previous point; God IS still on the throne and while all still may not be well, it IS still under control. He is not overwhelmed by any of the stuff that we get tore up about. He is not wringing his hands worrying over ISIS, the inauguration, what Russia is doing, what Trump will do, or what else Obama will do before he leaves office. He is not the least bit worried about anything in the future or the past. He doesn’t even regard time. It has no significance whatsoever to him. The next major event he is concerned with will be when he tells Jesus to come and get his bride. The rapture of the saints. Other than that, everything is still just like it was in our yesterday. There is no today or tomorrow in heaven because there is no time, just eternity. No night, just one glorious, continuous, day.

With all of that said; What do we do now? Do we just sit and hold our breath and wait for the next thing in our life to get us all worked up? TRUST GOD! That is always the best solution to everything. It worked last year and the year before that and before that. Actually, there has never been a time when it hasn’t worked. Just trust God. It has always worked in my life regardless of my circumstances and my parent’s life before me, and their parents before them. Once upon a time, trusting God was the one sure thing in most folk’s life. Truth be known; it still is. Circumstances change, calendars change, problems change, people change, ideas and opinions change, everything in the world changes but God never does. Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Malachi 3:6 says of God the Father “For I am the Lord, I change not…” In a world that is constantly changing and quite often not for the better, isn’t it good to know that we have a God that never does?

So back to the question “What now”? Trust God and prepare to live a long time but live every day like it is your last because one day it will be. One day, your calendar will turn but you won’t be around to see it. Life will go on with out you and everything will continue to change. At that point, the one thing that won’t change for you is your eternal destiny. Ecclesiastes 11:3 says “…if the tree fall towards the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.” When that last change comes and death takes us out of a world of change, we will enter into eternity. Either to an eternal life of joy and peace with the Lord or eternal damnation in hell separated from him forever never to have another opportunity to accept him as your personal Savior. So again the question; “What now?” The bible says in Amos 4:12 “…Prepare to meet thy God…” 2 Corinthians 6:2 says “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
