ALLEGED Andy Hollifield 1-9-17
Is it just me or is there anyone else that is sick of hearing proven criminals referred to as the “alleged” gunman, or “alleged” shooter etc… especially when there is either video evidence against them or they have been caught in the act? The definition of alleged means “declared or stated to be as described”. Other meanings are “supposed, doubtful, and suspect” I try to be encouraging in my post and not get on a rant but I saw a news report about the airport shooting in Florida that referred to the “alleged shooter”. Then they showed the video that revealed the person that they later arrested pulling a gun from his pants and shooting while walking through the airport. Although that camera was a undisputable witness, this man was still referred to as “alleged.” I also saw in this report that when he was confronted by police that he threw down his gun and peacefully surrendered. What part of that report is not cut and dried? I may not be real smart but unless there were other people firing their handguns in the airport at the time those people were murdered by a gun, common sense and the video tell me that he is without question the shooter.
The Charleston church massacre is another example. When you have that young man standing in court confessing that he did the shooting and he had the weapon and he was on video plus there was eyewitness testimony from several survivors, guess what? It is not a case of him being alleged to be the shooter, he IS the shooter. Apparently our local and national news readers do not know the definition of “alleged.” I do not say reporters because reporters report facts. They continually use that word to describe guilty individuals whom they have rock solid evidence against. Those folks in both cases did not allegedly get shot, they were shot and died! They had wounds and ballistic evidence in their bodies to prove they were shot and killed. To be fair in reporting they should be called “alleged” victims. If there is no definite shooter, how can there be definite victims? Apparently their journalistic education did not prepare them for dealing with facts. Dictionary.com is a dependable source for finding out definitions that you may not know. By media standards; we received between six and seven inches of alleged snow in Candler Friday night. The ground was brown and green in places until Friday afternoon and the stuff on my car, grass, and as far as I can see on Saturday is cold, wet, white, and slick. I don’t know what else it could be so it is allegedly snow. Isn’t that ridiculous?
I guess by now you are wondering how in the world this has a spiritual application. Believe me it does. We will not be judged for our alleged sin when we stand in judgment before God. Hebrews 9:27 says “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” In 2 Corinthians 5:10 the bible “says “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” There is no alleged judgment and no alleged works that we have done, it is simply fact. We will give an account of all that we have done and it said that we ALL must appear before him. That leaves no room for doubt.
We live in a society that likes to create “gray areas” as they call it, and doubt. Our society does not believe in absolute truth anymore as a whole. We have religions that don’t even believe in God, the devil, the sanctity of life, heaven or hell, or even in Christ himself and others that don’t accept his deity as the son of God. By creating doubt, society and Satan have talked God’s people into accepting sin and lifestyles and behaviors as a personal choice. It is not a choice as we believe it to be. It is actually a choice between accepting the Lord as our Savior and keeping his commandments or rejecting him as our Savior and dying and trespassing into hell that was originally prepared for the devil and his angels. God never intended for man to go there and by the sacrifice of his Son on Calvary for our sin, he accepted Christ blood sacrifice in our place. There is absolute truth not alleged truth and absolute sin and not gray areas, that we are all guilty of. God has a perfect and complete record of all of our deeds that we have ever done. He has a record of all of our words before we ever even speak them. How can anyone not believe that as absolute truth but can believe that we evolved from monkeys. If evolution were true, and it’s not, but if it were why didn’t the rest of the monkeys finish evolving into humans? It takes a lot more faith to believe something like that than it does to believe in God and creation and divine order and judgment.
I hope this doesn’t bring anyone down, if you have accepted the Lord as your Savior you should be encouraged by the absolute truth of what I have written. Actually not by what I have written but by what Christ said before being betrayed by Judas. In John 14:1 he told his disciples not to be troubled because even though they would be hated by the world and things would get a lot worse, he would one day come back for those that were looking for him. That includes us that are born again believers. He even prayed for us in John chapter 17 and verse 20 in the garden just prior to the arrival of Judas and the soldiers. He said in that verse “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;” That my friend is absolute truth. The events of his life are not only biblical but have also been proven historically. Nothing alleged about the fact as he said in John 3:7 “…ye must be born again.” No room for doubt, he stated as a fact that “ye must be.”
Now if all of this I have written about judgment and Jesus is not “alleged” but is fact, and it is; then it stands to reason that all of the promises he made for those that accept him are also fact. The good news is that they are. His promise of grace, his spirit, his presence, his provision, his protection, his providence in our lives, all of it is fact. Nothing alleged, just facts. If that doesn’t encourage you to know that the God of heaven is willing to lead you and “orders your steps” and is coming back to get you to live with him forever, there is nothing else I can say to help you. Knowing he has your back in whatever you face in this life should be all the encouragement any of us should need. Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!
